The 4 Routes That Always Work
- JFK/MIA/DCA → Oman Air via Muscat — The best kept secret. Oman Air frequently runs $500 roundtrip specials. 8-hour layover in Muscat is actually worth it.
- All US hubs → Emirates sale — Emirates runs flash sales 4x per year. Sign up for their newsletter. Typically drops to $599 one-way, $799 roundtrip.
- Turkish Airlines via Istanbul — Consistently $550-$700 roundtrip. Long layovers but excellent service.
- Qatar Airways via Doha — Price matches Oman Air on most routes. Often identical pricing.
Best Time to Book Dubai
January through March is peak season but also when Emirates runs its biggest sales. September-October is the cheapest shoulder season — $100+ below peak pricing.
Avoid: Thanksgiving week, Christmas through New Year, and the Dubai Shopping Festival (January 15 - February 14) unless you find a fare sale.
Pro Tips
- ✅ Emirates sale windows — Typically January, March, June, and October. Set a Google Alert for "Emirates sale".
- ✅ Oman Air Tuesdays — They release their best fares on Tuesday mornings. Check every Tuesday.
- ✅ Fly into DXB, fly out of SHJ — Sometimes departing from Sharjah (20 min from Dubai) saves $150.
- ❌ Don't book package tours — Always cheaper to book flight + hotel separately.
